Project  Title:  A Study on water quality and its impacts on human health.

Abstract:
  • To study and analyse the ground water data in Jaffna Peninsula
  • To find the patterns of water quality during various seasons
  • To find the patterns of groundwater quality and verify that the quality of groundwater impacts on human health.

  • First step data was converted to word file to excel file.
  • To  preprocess the data  there exists some ambitiousness about the data such as
    • Missing values
    • Outliers
    •  Measurement scale of the attributes
    • Other information of the data set
  • Therefore we met Dr.(Mrs).T. Mihunthan, Senior Lecturer, Dept. of Agriculture, University of Jaffna to discuss about it.
  • From that discussion we got some information
       About the first data set:
  • The data collected duration :- March 2007 to February 2008
  • Regions - Thirunelvely and Kondavil
  • Amount - 20 wells per region
  • Types of well:
    • Public
    • Domestic
    • Domestic and Home Gardening
    • Agriculture
  • The data was collected monthly wise and the well were chosen randomly.
  • In Every type of well 4 samples were collected.
  • The purpose for collecting the samples is to identify the quality of the ground water in different land use in different seasons.
  • The following contents were measured
    • Nitrate-N
    • Hardness
    • Chloride
    • Alkalinity
    • EC
  • In this data set there is no missing values
  • There exists an outlier in the Nitrate-N content at Thirunelvely region.
     From the second data set
  • The data was collected from 3 regions in Jaffna peninsula- Varamaradchi, Thenmaradchi and Jaffna
  • In every region 20 samples were collected
  • In these wells 10 samples were collected from cancer patients home's as well as the other remaining 10 were collected from non-cancer patients home's well.
  • From these samples there was an outlier in Sulphate measurement- In correct measurement
